Jazz All-Star Lauri Markkanen has signed a long-term contract extension to remain in Utah.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Markkanen has signed a five-year, $238 million contract renegotiation and extension with the Jazz. The deal adds another four years and $196 million to his contract, which was entering its final season.
Markkanen had been the subject of several potential trade scenarios, but he said he is relieved to have the issue resolved.
“It’s a weight off my shoulders and I can focus on the main thing now: playing basketball at a high level,” Markkanen told ESPN. “I don’t stress about it, but you can’t pretend you don’t hear that stuff. It’s a good feeling knowing that I’m going to be in Utah.”
The 7-footer has averaged 24.5 points in two seasons with Utah, including winning the NBA’s Kia Most Improved Player in the 2022-23 season and being named to the All-Star team in 2024.
