New Delhi: The upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place in Pakistan, but uncertainty looms over the tournament as no concrete solution has been reached yet. The Indian cricket team has already declined to tour the neighboring country, putting the event in jeopardy. Pakistan, on the other hand, is reluctant to host the tournament on a hybrid model, leading to a delay in the announcement of the schedule by the ICC. The Pakistan Cricket Board has been vocal about their desire to host the prestigious tournament, but the impasse persists. In a significant development, the International Cricket Council has stepped in to address the situation, seeking a resolution that satisfies all parties involved. The cricketing world waits with bated breath for a decision to be made regarding the fate of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
ICC took a big step for the Champions Trophy:
According to a report by ANI, ICC officials are trying to urge the Pakistan Cricket Board to work towards a hybrid model for the ICC Champions Trophy next year through back-channel talks. That is, ICC officials are persuading the PCB to agree to hold this tournament on a hybrid model. At the same time, the ICC is also explaining why the hybrid model is the best way for the tournament and why an ICC tournament cannot be held without the Indian cricket team. Apart from this, ICC officials are also trying to make Pakistan stop making any statements against India.
Let us tell you, earlier this month, the ICC informed the PCB in writing that India would not travel to Pakistan to participate in the Champions Trophy, which will be held in early 2025. Since then this controversy has been going on. According to the report, if the Champions Trophy is played on a hybrid model, then all the matches of Team India will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On the other hand, the Pakistan Board wants India to tour Pakistan as their team went to India during the ICC ODI World Cup in 2023. Earlier, Pakistan hosted the Asian Trophy, but it was held in a hybrid model, in which India played its matches in Sri Lanka.
The schedule will be announced soon:
According to the report, discussions are going on about the schedule with Champions Trophy host Pakistan and the rest of the participating teams and it is likely to come out in a few days. It is believed that the ICC can release the schedule this week in any case. Usually, the schedule is announced 100 days before the start of the tournament. But this time it is getting delayed after Team India refused.
