Liam Delap's late equalizer secures thrilling draw for Ipswich against Aston Villa, denying Unai Emery's team chance to move up to second place

The visitors had the opportunity to climb to second place in the Premier League with a victory, but their hopes were dashed early on as Liam Delap found the back of the net with a brilliant finish from Jack Clarke's precise cross, leaving Emi Martinez helpless at his near post.

Villa's bounce back was impressive, though. Some messy defending gifted Morgan Rogers the chance to equalise, and he did so with aplomb, netting his first of the season after Jacob Greaves' hopeless clearance.

Ollie Watkins - the league's most effective forward behind Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah during Unai Emery's time in charge - then completed the first-half turnaround when peeling off Axel Tuanzebe and Dara O'Shea to meet Leon Bailey's cross and plant a header beyond Arijanet Muric.

But there was a sting in the tail. In similar vain to Ipswich's first goal, Clarke linked with Delap and the striker did the rest, charging towards goal, giving Martinez the eyes, and burying a strike in the far corner.
