Valencia, currently fighting against relegation in La Liga, has made a new appointment in the form of Carlos Corberan as their new manager. The Spanish club successfully negotiated with English Championship side West Bromwich Albion to acquire Corberan, exercising a buyout clause in his contract. The deal will see Corberan at Mestalla until 2027, taking over from former coach Ruben Baraja who was recently sacked. Corberan, a former Valencia youth goalkeeper, led West Brom to the Championship playoffs last season during his two-year tenure at the club. West Brom expressed their gratitude and best wishes to Corberan as he embarks on this new chapter with Valencia.
Corberan, 41, has also coached Huddersfield Town and Greek giants Olympiacos as well as assisting Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United. He faces a daunting challenge to save Valencia from the drop.
The six-time Spanish champions have not played outside the top flight since the 1986/87 season but sit 19th in La Liga, four points from safety, with just 12 points from 17 matches.
